Ladies and gentlemen, meet the best time management tool ever……the default diary

I’ve blogged about the default diary before. It was something I picked up from Actioncoach and it probably is the best time management tool ever.
Quite simply, its a timetable. Its very similar to the one you would have had at school. You remember? Science 10.00, Home economics 11.00 (bizarre name for cooking).
You write out a timetable with activities throughout the week. If you’ve read my previous blog, here’s some more tips:
1. Make sure you leave yourself SPACE. You’ll need it for unexpected things that pop up or inevitable overruns.
2. Make sure the activities are actually aligned with your overall goals. Effective not efficient.
3. Stick to it. Don’t say it doesn’t work if you don’t stick to it. If we arranged to meet for coffee, you probably wouldn’t cancel on me 5 minutes before because you had other things to do. Treat your ‘appointments’ like you would do real people.
4. If 3. doesn’t work, actually create fake people to have meetings with (yes this is totally mad but I’ve seen it work!!!!).
I’ve seen people’s productivity sky rocket just by having a default diary – give it a try.
