How much do you need to pay to qualify for state pension?

You need 30 qualifying years of National Insurance contributions or credits to get the full basic State Pension.

If however you earn between £112-£155 per week, you can still qualify for state pensions. No National Insurance contributions (NICs) are actually payable but a notional Class 1 NIC is deemed to have been paid in respect of earnings between LEL and PT to protect contributory benefit entitlement.

Therefore:

£8,060 salary or above – qualifies for state pension

Below £5,824 – does not qualify
