How I turned a £5,000 investment into £225,000

For those business owners out there who are really passionate about what they do, networking can be a hugely rewarding and lucrative part of the marketing mix.
Unfortunately, many business owners read the word ‘networking’ as net-let’s have a coffee or net-let’s play telephone tag or net-let’s talk but don’t actually give each other business.
The clue is in the name. Net-working. To get referrals from networking you have got to work at it really, really hard. Strangely though, its not working really, really hard on getting your name out there or winning business, great networkers are those who give business referrals out, who make connections, who continously help people without any expectation of anything back.
The result of this is of course that they get loads back and plenty of business referrals. Its counter-intuitive but I can tell you from personal experience it works.
Before I joined the BNI (Business Networking International) networking group as a founding member 4 and a half years ago, I knew nothing about networking. BNI taught me all I know.
I don’t know if you have ever heard of BNI, but I am a BNI zealot, a BNI lunatic and a BNI raving fan. Why?
I’ve invested £5,000 into my BNI group (annual membership, room hire, breakfast etc.) and have to date made back £225,000.
That’s a 45 times investment.
I don’t know any marketing in the world that can give that kind of return.
