England expects……not much
Author: Russell SmithJune 10, 2012
I haven’t seen many red England flags on cars this summer. I’m not sure whether this is because:
a) The Jubilee, both the Jubilee itself and the timing of the Jubilee
b) The Olympics
c) Nobody is expecting England to do much in the tournament
Personally, I am writing this filled with as much excitement as I had when I first got into watching England in 1990 and am really looking forward to England v France tomorrow.
I told myself not to get involved this year. I haven’t watched a single qualifier, having been so despondent over the England v Germany game in the World Cup (because we were so bad AND how a sport with so much money in it could not afford goalline technology).
But as soon as the tournament started on Friday, I have been hooked. I’m sure to be disappointed though along with all England fans. I think our group is tough and if we squeeze past it, a quarter final victory over Spain or Italy looks unlikely.
Anyway, what has this got to do with anything?
I made an interesting observation about time management and myself today. I, like most business owners, am very busy. Of course, busy doesn’t always equal productivity but I’m sure you get my point. I have complained with the best of them about the lack of time there is to do all the things that need to be done.
Like me, I’m sure you know, that you can’t actually manage time. Time keeps going forward whether you like it or not. You can only invest time and despite a busy weekend and despite my usual Sunday evening week slot which usually lasts 3 hours, I have managed to watch every Euro 2012 highlight show from Friday to Sunday and I’ve seen one full game. If you include the Thursday football focus preview, that’s about 5 hours that I’ve managed to carve out of my ‘busy’ schedule.
Here’s the point….you may be mega busy and feel overwhelmed by everything you have to do, but the truth is, if you really want to do something, you will make time to do it – simple as that.
What business tasks are you putting off and hiding behind the ‘there is no time’ routine?
Now that I’ve got that off my chest, back to the football…..not good for yours or my productivity (only every 2 years though!!!).
