Accountants fitbit obsession: “They have taken over our lives”
Author: Russell SmithSeptember 10, 2015
For the last four months, virtually all of our accountants at Russell Smith offices have had fitbits on.
What started as a friendly group exercise (literally) has now descended into an obsession that has threatened to destabilise the harmony and goodwill of our friendly team.
Initially, yours truly, was winning most of the daily challenges. Not being one to hide my accomplishments under a bushel, I engaged what I believe basketball players would describe as ‘trash talk’. I think I got my inspiration from Jose Mourinho when I described myself as ‘unbeatable’.
Unfortunately, like Jose, I appear to have only antagonised my opponents (I mean, my team) who have appeared to have developed, what I can only describe as ‘super human step ability’.
There are instances of sneak syncing, playing down ambition and worst of all, an unannounced 30,000 step day which nobody saw coming (on a Sunday of all days – the day of rest!).
Now to win a daily challenge you need to comfortably pass 15,000 steps and that is no guarantee of victory.
With all the pressures of life, it’s difficult to bring in more stepping to an otherwise busy schedule. However, quite frankly, this fitbit obsession has taken over our lives and there is no turning back.
If you would like to share this fitbit obsession please email me at Russell@rsaccountancy.co.uk
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please forget I said anything, you don’t want to get involved.
