Driving into the office today, I was struck with a great idea of a new service that I could offer my clients.

As I thought about it further, I got more and more excited about the impact it could have. So excited, that here is what I wanted to do upon arriving at the office:

a) trash my to do list carefully planned the night before
b) call an immediate meeting of the directors
c) announce this amazing new service
d) begin immediate development on this service

Fortunately for me (and my directors), I didn’t do any of the above.

It still surprises how I can get so caught up with something new and want to take action now.

Here’s a question for you…..

Five frogs sitting on a log. One decides to jump off. How many frogs are left on the log?

If you are answer is four, you are incorrect.

The correct answer is five. The frog only decided to jump off, he didn’t actually jump off.

The moral of this tale, is that just because you decide to do something doesn’t mean you have to do it today. Many business owners really struggle with the tension between the tasks that need to be completed now and the tasks that need to be completed tomorrow. There are ideas and parts of the business that need correcting which are very important but do not need to be corrected today. Often tomorrow’s to-do list appears more interesting than today’s.

I’ve decided to start work on my new service. But I’ve also decided not do anything on it until April and it will just have to sit in my head whilst I deal with today’s tasks.
