Nobody likes paying the PAYE/NI bill but if you are unable to pay your PAYE tax and NI bill you can contact HMRC on 0300 200 3835 and ask for time to pay arrangement i.e. pay your bill over a period of time (if you are a client, we will do this for you).
Since 1 August 2015, HMRC won’t allow extra time unless you authorise your bank to allow it to take the installment payments by direct debit.
This won’t affect time to pay arrangements before 1 August 2015.
There was a time when time to pay arrangements were relatively straightforward to agree with HMRC. They are now much harder with HMRC asking for much more information and being quicker to refuse.
If you are struggling on cash, the big tip is to speak to them early i.e. before the bill is due and have a clear idea of how long you want to pay the bill over.
